Masdar City

Masdar City in the UAE stands as a beacon of sustainability and innovation. As a testament to its commitment, the city hosts a cutting-edge Visitor Center designed to educate and captivate visitors.

Commissioned by Lexicon Lore to be part of a wider team, our task was to craft an immersive UI experience for the interaction screens and design a custom Metahuman guide to showcase Masdar City's vision and processes.

The beautiful space was built to perfection by Wood and designed by the lovely people at Lexicon Lore.

01 - Challenge

Technology for people

Integrating technology seamlessly into an immersive visitor experience was a challenge. We designed a custom Metahuman as a benchmark-setting innovation, coupled with NFC "guest cards" for personalized language journeys. Our focus on setting context and comprehensive wireframing allowed us to envision and navigate diverse user interactions across fixed screen sizes.

02 - Approach

Crafting Immersive Narratives

We embraced a meticulous approach by blending craft, world-building, and technology to define the aesthetic for the welcome center screens. Our vision of "near-future interface designs" and Sci-Fi inspirations shaped the look & feel exercise, while a deep assessment of technology capabilities led to the utilization of large-format displays across seven distinct zones.

Additionally, in crafting a groundbreaking immersive experience, we introduced a custom-designed Metahuman to guide visitors through each zone. Drawing upon a diverse array of source imagery, we meticulously curated the appearance of our female Emirati Metahuman, setting a new benchmark for regional Metahuman depiction. Capable of communicating in both English and Arabic, this Metahuman underwent iterative design processes within Unreal Engine, ensuring accuracy and cultural resonance through extensive feedback loops. The development of this Metahuman marked a pioneering step in regional Metahuman design and functionality.

03 - Execution

Precision in Innovation

Innovatively departing from conventional web and app design methodologies, we meticulously tailored content for specific fixed screen sizes. This deliberate approach granted us meticulous control over every interaction point, laying the groundwork for pioneering advancements. Our tailored content strategy facilitated the design of new navigation frameworks, ensuring a seamless exploration experience for visitors. Furthermore, it empowered the development of high-definition, immersive content intricately aligned with Masdar City's journey.

Additionally, the Metahuman's versatility was showcased across a spectrum of screens, ranging from compact displays to towering screens exceeding 8 feet in size. This adaptability underscored the seamless integration of the Metahuman into various screen dimensions, guaranteeing a consistent and engaging experience for visitors across all display sizes.

Visitors appreciated the center's innovation, marking a milestone in engaging and educating audiences about Masdar City's sustainable vision.
